展览介绍
上海喜玛拉雅美术馆将于2021年4月18日至5月29日带来全新展览《本色出演/成为本尊——22位中以女性艺术家影像展》。本次展览由苏珊·布罗施-莱维特(Shoshan Brosh-Levitt)与张芳联合策展,呈现逾45件(组)摄影与录像作品。这些作品通过女性艺术家的本色出演、寻找自我本尊的变化过程,凸显女性所面临的各种挑战及做为艺术家的她们突破各种局限,争取自我解放和救赎的抗争。这次展览希望观众透过艺术家「镜头」传达出的影像,感知中国和以色列两种文化、两种社会的异同,并结合自身的成长经历和所处的周遭环境,对作品做出自我解释。

中国和以色列分处亚洲大陆的两端,两国都在努力地促进全球的文化交流与合作。本次展览的22位中以女性艺术家活跃在摄影和录像实践与实验的前沿,挑战着摄影和影像的边界。她们关注她者、逝人、神话、历史、现状以及当今的生活方式。作品创作灵感来源于艺术家所处的特定的社会、文化和个人心理层面,但最重要的是人性层面上,作品体现出女性如何以其特有身份回应所处变革时代的种种变化,以及她们基于「自我」的探索与思考。

其中一些作品也表达出艺术家们对经典名作的再理解,以及意欲模糊现实与想象的边界的尝试。她们将个人叙事与经历嵌入历史脉络,链接古往今来及未知世界。

展出作品将按照如下主题呈现:女性作为自然主体; 女性作为生活的创造者与延续性的维护者; 寻找身份特征的女性; 代际关系中的女性(母亲、祖母、女儿、孙女); 试图改善其家庭、社会、经济和政治地位的女性;艺术语境中的女性。这些作品展现了中以两国女性艺术家在摄影与影像领域的观察与思考,以及她们各自对不同社会议题的独到见解。同时,作品与观者产生的对话,引发出对女性在不同语境中的身份的思考。
策展人介绍
苏珊·布罗施-莱维特,1951 年生于以色列,现生活工作于特拉维夫、斯坦福,以及上海,教育学博士。曾于多家学术机构任职,包括特拉维夫大学(1977-2003)、北京外国语大学(2011),以及北京大学(2007,2009-2013)。苏珊·布罗施—莱维特著有 15 本出版书籍,以及大量学术文章。曾策划多场大型国际艺术展览,近期策展项目包括:《拓宽边缘:中国摄影与影像群展》,以色列威尔弗里德亚洲艺术与研究博物馆,2017;《撕裂:第二届重庆国际影像双年展双年展》,重庆国际影像双年展,2017;《歌剧之声:巴斯玛特·勒文个展》,Lobby Gallery,2017-2018 等。
张芳,1970年生于山东,成长在内蒙古。1997年外交学院获外交外事翻译硕士学位,1999年美国圣母大学和平研究方向硕士学位。1990年代主要从事英语教学及翻译工作。2000年后开始参与一些当代艺术的创作和推荐并组织展览的工作。2010年后与国外的艺术学院合作讲授中国当代艺术史,并开始撰写关于中国当代摄影的系列文章。2020年后的主要研究方向是中国当代摄影的近四十年的发展以及在海外的展览及收藏。
The Shanghai Himalayas Art Museum will present the new exhibition Impersonating Myself / Becoming Myself—Photography and Video Exhibition of 22 Female Artists from China and Israel from April 18 to May 29, 2021. The exhibition is co-curated by Shoshan Brosh-Levitt and Zhang Fang, presenting over 45 pieces (groups) of photographic and video work. These works show the various challenges faced by women and the struggle for self-liberation and salvation by breaking through various limitations as artists through the process of impersonating myself, becoming myself. This exhibition hopes that the audience could perceive the similarities and differences between the two cultures and societies of China and Israel through the images conveyed by the artist's "lens", and combine their own growth experience and the surrounding environment to explain the works themselves.©️Tal Shochat, Me and Mother at the Beach, C-Print, 70 x 70 cm,1999In this “Time of Asia”, China and Israel - situated on two opposite edges of the same continent – provide the basis for this special event, involving as it does two countries striving for global cultural cooperation. Twenty-two Chinese and Israeli women artists participate in the exhibition. They are all visual artists, active on the front lines of innovation in photography and video. They challenge the limits of photography and video art in their world and around. These artists engage with other women, with figures from the past, with myths, with history, with the present and with current domestic & international lifestyles. Their work derives from the actions of the artist within a particular psychological-social-cultural sphere, but - first and foremost - the human sphere. These images embody the history of photography and the feminine representation within it. In their work, the artists explore reality and imagination, re-interpreting known works of art. They process their wanderings through time & space into an innovative voice, here, now, and beyond.©️Alex Kurbatov, Venus, C-Print, 50 x 70 cm,2016The display of the works is organized according to the following themes: “Women as a life-force identified with nature”; “Women as creators of life and as carers of continuity”; “Women seeking identity”; “Women in the context of the inter-generational chain (mothers, grandmothers, daughters, and granddaughter)“; “Women seeking to improve their family, social, economic and political status”; “Women in the context of art”. The works motivate a dialogue with the viewer and stimulate our cultures going forward.Shoshan Brosh-Levitt was born in Israel in 1951, currently lives and works in Tel Aviv Israel, Stanford, USA, and Shanghai, China; PhD in education. Shoshan was a former senior lecturer at Tel Aviv University (1977-2003); lecturer at Peking University (PKU) (2007, 2009-2013), and at BFS (Beijing Foreign Study University) (2011). Her Publication includes 15 academic printed books and dozens of academic articles. Recent curatorial projects include Wide Margins: Chinese Photography and Video Group Exhibition, Wilfrid Museum of Asian Art & Studies, 2017; Rip IT Up: The Israeli exhibition at the 2nd Photography & Video Biennale, The Changjiang International Photography & Video Biennale, 2017; Opera Colors: Basmat Levin, Israeli Painter in Shanghai, The Lobby Gallery, 2017-2018. Zhang Fang was born in Shandong in 1970 and grew up in Inner Mongolia. Zhang received her master's degree in the translation of diplomatic affairs from China Foreign Affairs University in 1997, and her master's degree in peace studies from the University of Notre Dame in 1999. She began to participate in contemporary art creation, organize exhibitions after 2000; give lectures on Chinese contemporary art history by cooperating with foreign art academies, and write a series of articles on Chinese contemporary photography after 2010. Zhang Fang's main research area after 2020 is the development of Chinese contemporary photography in the past four decades and its exhibition and collection overseas.
